Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland during the hours of darkness. According to the authorized statements of the European Food Safety Authority, melatonin contributes to the alleviation of subjective feelings of jet lag and to the reduction of time taken to fall asleep.*
In case of jet lag the beneficial effect is obtained with 1 serving (0.95 mg) melatonin to be taken close to bedtime on the first day of travel and on the following few days after arrival at the destination. In case of sleep disorders the beneficial effect is obtained by consuming 1 serving (0.95 mg) melatonin close to bedtime.
